An essential guide for those interested in learning the processes and techniques involved with the manufacture of a range of traditional sticks, outlining the processes in a clear straightforward manner and using a wealth of diagrams and photographs. It also contains valuable up-to-date information on where to source the raw materials for stickmaking, how to find, cut, and season wood and where to locate materials such as ram and buffalo horn. This book is equally accessible to stick enthusiasts, amateur craftsmen, and experianced professionals alike.

About the Authors Born into a farming family, Andrew Jones has spent his whole working life farming in West Wales. An uncle cultivated his interest in making sticks and encouraged him to enter his work in local craft shows. He makes a wide range of sticks, but it is his specialities – horn crooks and Cardigan walking sticks – which regularly earn him top honours at major competitions throughout Wales. He and his wife live near Lampeter.

After a career in the Civil Service, Clive George took early retirement in 1993 and, having bought a small farm, went on to buy a few sheep to go with it. He owns a small flock of purebred Llanwenog sheep (named after the west Wales parish where he and his wife live) which he shows successfully in his locality. A lifelong interest in stickmaking, and a fortuitous meeting, led him to collaborate in the production of this book.
